Sesame Place fallout
Jun. 7th, 2006 10:05 pmRhys, Vicki, and I (Bard) went on a two-day minivacation to Sesame Place, and, 'cause Sesame Place is more of a waterpark/amusement park than it might be, and the weather was cold and wet and rainy, to some Philly museums too. Pretty fun, in many ways. Here are some notable events.
Hot! We invented a gamelet -- which is to say, all three of us did. We saw an ad on the side of a truck saying "Hot?", on the way down. Someone said "Hot?" in a funny intonation. Someone else followed up with another word -- "Dog?" it might have been -- in the same funny intonation. The three of us kept on free-associating words for many minutes. Rhys held up his end, quite nicely. It's cool to be able to play wordgames with your child.
Being Eaten By Dinosaurs: We were in the Natural Science museum. There was an exhibit where you could sit in a corner and have your image inserted into a film of dinosaurs -- including a T.Rex. snapping at your head. Rhys and I watched while Vicki was in the scene... and Rhys got pretty freaked out. For the next couple hours he kept checking in with her, and explaining that he was frightened by the movie.
Live Elmo's World. Elmo's World is a Sesame Street segment. On the show it's got some pretty surreal animated effects: a drawer zooming out huge distances, a door squirming in its frame, etc. We saw a live version, which did a pretty good haunted-house version of those: the drawer was a very long drawer with its back to the side of the stage, so it could indeed extend very far out but could look normal when it was closed. The squirmy door was tight cloth on a frame with people bopping it from behind.
It was a pretty fun mini-vacation, with no more than the obligatory 2-year-old chaos, but I'm too tired to write more just now.
